The Southeast Community Development Corporation is a non-profit
organization founded by Come As You Are Community Church. With
a growing need for an economic revival of the Southeast section
of Fort Wayne, this organizations primary goal is to develop plans
and secure funding for projects designed to fiscally stimulate
this diverse, low-income part of our community.
Allen
County Superior Court Juvenile Community Service(back
to top)
Since
1998, we have been an official organization where juveniles can
come to complete their community service hours. We believed that
this was a good connection for us because many times families
who are in this position are hurting and frustrated. What a time
to bring the love of God to those families. We have probably had
upwards of 50 young people during this time and God has allowed
about 7-10 of those families to yoke up with our ministry due
to this community connection.
The
Johnson Academy, northeast Indiana’s first charter school,
opened its doors on August 26, 2002. Named after Timothy L. Johnson,
the first board member in East Allen County Schools elected specifically
to represent citizens of a predominantly black area known for
academic struggles, serves as a living legacy to an advocate dedicated
to equality in education.
Serving
kindergarten through eight graders, the schools curriculum includes
a fine arts focus. It is the community’s answer to years
of low test scores. With an average student to teacher ratio of
25-to-1 and an emphasis on parental involvement, discipline and
respect, the 225 member student body is slated for success.
Chartered
by Indiana’s Ball State University and managed by the Leona
Group whose leadership is rooted in the Fort Wayne community,
the Johnson Academy is an ideal example of the State of Indiana
and city of Fort Wayne taking responsibility for the scholastic
future of its children.
The
choice to locate the Johnson Academy on the Come As You Are Community
Church campus is a reflection of the churches commitment to the
spiritual, social and economic growth of the entire community.
As stated by Pastor Anthony Payton, “our children deserve
the very best we have to offer. The relationship between school
officials, parents and Ball State University is an example of
a passionate partnership to provide a quality education for students.”

One
church one offender teams are awaiting an ex- offender. They have
been in consistent use since about 1997. There is a male team
to counsel, mentor male ex-offenders as well as a female team
to do likewise for the female ex-offender. This is a collaborative
program that networks with the not for profit organization by
the same name located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Come
as you Are Community Church donates monies to the Fraternal Order
of Police so that at least 6-10 under privilege children can experience
a personal shopping spree. Each child receives $100.00 to spend
for clothing items and a toy at either Walmart or Meijers.
Our
Angel Tree Project is one we do in conjunction with Prison Fellowship.
Each year since approximately 1997 we have sponsored at least
100 children each Christmas to purchase two gifts. These children
have one or both parents who are incarcerated. So churches each
take a quantity of names and purchase gifts for these children
and then have a party for them and their family. We use this as
an evangelistic outreach as well.
The
What’s Up Social Project-Brazil started in 2002, as a vision
of Pastor Adilson Siva Araújo, Pastor Anthony Payton and
Jonatas Bento. The goal is to use free English classes as a means
to share Christ with Brazilian teens and their families. To date,
we have one adult class per week with 17 students enrolled and
three teen classes per week with 25 students in each class! Pastor
Adilson meets with each teen and his or her family to discuss
spiritual issues, schoolwork and anything that may be on the family’s
heart. Jonatas is supervisor of the teachers (there are three
English teachers) and teaches himself. Pastor Payton travels to
Brazil at least once a year to preach and teach in local churches,
and Come As You Are Community Church family supports all of this
through their mission budget.
These
are the needs:
Books: $17.00 USD a set of book (Textbook + Workbook). There
are 40 kids sharing the same book.
One-year
teachers wage: $50.00 USD
Director (Jonatas) Transportation (gasoline): $112.28 USD a
month
All
gifts to support this mission outreach of Come As You Are Community
Church are tax deductible. All Checks are to be made out to CAYA
Brazilin Project.
Since
its founding in 2001 by Pastor Anthony Payton and Jonatas and
Camila Bento, the ORION Travel Agency has been awarded Best Travel
Agency in Rio Bonito, Brazil. The vision was to provide efficient,
timely arrangements for missionaries and others traveling between
the United States and Brazil, and to stimulate the local economy;
both of which have been realized. All profits from this agency
go to support the missions in Brazil. For more information, send
