Our
Status
Founded on the Word of God on January 22, 1989 by a small group of
twenty–seven believers, Come as You Are Community Church has
grown to a membership of over four hundred fifty. With the many diverse
new faces the Holy Spirit has drawn to our ministry, our prayers and
desires for physical expansion were answered. On August 26, 2002 we
were blessed with over seven acres of land which houses the 28,000
sq. ft. state of the art sanctuary and the campus of the Timothy L.
Johnson Academy.
With
the help of God and utilization of the many resources within our
community, we have been able to accomplish great things. The fifteen
active ministries and the non-profit Southeast Community Development
Corporation are testament to the ‘faith at work’ inspired
by the teachings of Pastor Payton. We are at one stop in our journey
toward the realization of the life that God desires for all of His
children.

Vision Casting: A Five Year Plan
There is not a doubt in my mind God is calling us to be world changers!
We cannot become or be what God wants us to become or be without
first becoming fully devoted followers of Christ in our personal
and corporate life.
We are a church! We are not a social club, lodge, bowling league
or business, but rather the Church of The Lord Jesus Christ!
That which is at stake for us are the souls of people of all racial,
cultural and economic background. We are here to make it difficult
for anyone in this community, country and world to enter a dark
and painful Christless eternity.
This cannot be done on a whim. We must strategically plan, structure
and commit our selves for the harvest—remembering that the
harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. The only other alternative
is to stand before God with empty hands and barren hearts. None
of us should desire that, but rather desire to hear Him say, “well
done thy good and faithful servant.
“With
a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge
of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His
blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God’s
work must truly be our own.” John F. Kennedy
"Without
ambition one starts nothing. Without work one finishes nothing.
The prize will not be sent to you. You have to win it. The man who
knows how will always have a job. The man who also knows why will
always be his boss. As to methods there may be a million and then
some, but principles are few. The man who grasps principles can
successfully select his own methods. The man, who tries methods,
ignoring principles, is sure to have trouble." Emerson (1803-1882)
Focus Areas For The Next Five Years
(back
to top)
1.
Intensive and Intentional Evangelism Efforts
Romans 1:16
“For
I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power
of God at work, saving everyone who believes—Jews first and
also Gentiles.
2.
Integration of Entire Membership into Spiritual Maturity, Community
and in Full Participation in the Life of the Church
Hebrews 5:13-14
13 And a person who is living on milk isn’t very far along
in the Christian life and doesn’t know much about doing what
is right. 14 Solid food is for those who are mature, who have trained
themselves to recognize the difference between right and wrong and
then do what is right.
John
13:34-35
34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just
as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for
one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
Ephesians
4:11-13
11 He is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles,
the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12
Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work
and build up the church, the body of Christ, 13 until we come to
such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we
will be mature and full grown in the Lord, measuring up to the full
stature of Christ.
3.
Intentionally Develop Core and Lay Leadership Base
2
Timothy 2:1-2
1 You then, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus;2
and what you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to
faithful people who will be able to teach others as well.
